Local Summerville Artist, Yvonne Rousseau, had a screened-in porch. While it offered a connection to the outdoors, it wasn’t comfortable or practical for year-round use. She mentioned that in the spring, pollen would come through, and temperature swings throughout the year either made her feel too hot or too cold depending on the season.
As an accomplished artist, she wanted a room that would feel open and connected to nature, while still offering the comfort and control to work without distraction. So, we were honored when she reached out to our team for her porch conversion.
With her vision in mind, our team at Southern Exposure Sunrooms designed and built a custom 4-season glass sunroom tailored to her home and lifestyle.
What was once a screened-in porch is now a bright, fully usable space year-round. More than that, it has become a place where Yvonne can relax, and also fully step into her passion for painting. In many ways, it now functions as an art studio as much as it does a sunroom.
Yvonne’s connection to art runs deep. She began painting at a young age and quickly discovered both a natural talent and a lifelong passion for the craft. That early foundation led her to pursue an undergraduate degree from North Carolina A&T and a master’s degree from UNC Greensboro. She went on to dedicate many years of her career to teaching visual arts in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, where she encouraged countless students to find confidence and joy through creativity.
Even in “retirement,” she never stopped creating. Today, she continues to paint daily and remains deeply involved in the Summerville, SC art community, including managing and owning local art galleries.
When Riely Murray and Mackenzie Cranna of Southern Exposure Sunrooms stopped by to check in on her new sunroom, Yvonne was right in the middle of a painting inspired by the view outside her window. She was capturing the base of the trees and carefully building out the layers of light, shadow, and color, bringing to life the way sunlight moved through the landscape just beyond her glass windows.
With her new sunroom, that lifelong dedication to art finally has a space that matches it—one filled with natural light, backyard views, and the kind of year-round comfort that allows inspiration to flow freely.
